I know the pumps are expensive but they are designed for this. Fuel pumps are not going to last very long as they can't handle water or methanol and will fail.
As for the
pressure switch you can check it with a volt meter. They start at 40ish us and go up. Fluke is a very good brand and is what i have.
I would sujest getting one thats adjustable. Ours is on sale atm.

Yea, running straight water is fine, you can also run windshield washer fluid, this is a good source of methanol.
