Mate, my aligment mark isn't that far out. I wonder if it has slipped a cog on the injection pump.

The metering pin that follows the metering rod is free-floating. As long as you don't play with the throttle linkage while the rod is out, everything is fine. If you do play with the throttle linkage, it will extend out into the well and you can't get the rod back in. No big deal, just stick something down in the well and push the pin back into the side.

I always set my timing by the seat of the pants. I've never had a distributor or fuel injection pump that ever lined up with the marks.
