Nah, engine rotates clockwise viewed from front so moving pump towards the intake advances the timing, i.e. pulley aligns w/ theoretical vertical line through pump on each rotation before it hits the timing mark under the cover. I've advanced the timing, confirmed by timing tools, on the earlier 2l north american toyota diesels the same way. Moving the pump away would retard it further...
