This is because the controller does not need the stock ECM. You can leave the stock MAP or a MAF in place and the controller can not only power it it would read it as a separate and independent of any other ECU system. You can also use a 3bar GM map sensor as the stock WRX does not read that high and you would have a better tunning curve.

To connect a map sensor simply use any vacuum hose to the sensor port. The GM sensor is designed for a 1/4" ID Hose. Then connect the ground, grey wire from controller for power and the green to read the 5 volt out.
