You say crazy high readings off the grey wire, That wire is the 5v out it should be reading 4.9v or 5v. The green wire is a input wire it should be reading around the 1.22 v at idle..because thats about what your map sensor would be putting out at idle. Providing under voltage cannot damage a map sensor, over voltage will however damage one.

The wires should be arranged on the controller just like the photo below.
