Default Re: Compression Ratio

98 octane comes at a price, it works out to about $5.75 per US gallon and about $5.40 for our regular 91 octane.
I'm currently running water injection on a stock 250 ci motor, its just an old vacuum feed system, but it got me an extra 15° igition timing and 30-35 mpg on the freeway. I'm thinking of trying something in the 11-12.5:1 range for static compression, as I will be running a fair bit of overlap on the cam too. Its not the end of the world if I put too much comp in it, if it takes me a full weekend to pull the head de-comp it and get it back on the road I'll be surprised. Does that sort of compression sound unreasonable or am I still on the safe side? I'd like to push the limits a little on the compression just to test the water (pardon the pun) before I build a V8 later this year.
Thanks for your reply
