My unit is older, it has the knobs on the top and lights on the bottom(opposite of current). Will it still blink the status or is that a new feature? I will apply the 5v and see what happens.

Question......does it matter where you get the 12v power from? I mean, I just spliced into a small line that already runs my WB02 and cut-out, how much current does this thing need to operate the pump effectively? How did you wire yours? I'm thinking of running a seperate wire from the battery to a switch so it has it's own supply. Are there any benefits to the new controller?
