Re: 1KZ-TE Setup

Ok I pretty much have everything finished up.

I was wondering what controller comes with the diesel universal stage 2 kit? I have no idea what bar the 1KZ MAP needs and what came with the kit? When I turn the key on truck the controller turns on and the yellow light flashes 3 times real fast. I did not start the truck yet because I'm not done. But I was wondering from what the directions say you should know the bar by the yellow blinking count.... but does the vehicle need to be running first before I get the yellow blink to know the bar? I read that when the controller powers on it first blinks 3 times... so I don't think that its the bar blink yet... just the initial blink...?

Also anyone got some recommendations on setting the controller up for the 1KZ-TE? The engine is stock right now and my max boost I've seen is 12 psi. I guess I can just try the 1/4 for Start and 3/4 for Full....

Thanks all!

Re: 1KZ-TE Setup

The vehicle does not have to be running, just the key in the ignition on position. Your controller is showing it's in a 3bar mode/ voltage controller depending on what face plate you have.

Depending on what map sensor you have which I don't think would be a 3 bar for that vehicle you can use the controllers activation lights to set up. The green will come on at the start point and gradually get brighter as your boost increases then the 3rd LED yellow, will come on at 95% of your full set point.

Re: 1KZ-TE Setup

Ok well I did not tap my MAP signal wire good enough.... the wire moved in the tapper and it did not cut. I fixed that and the controller responds correctly now... it was not responding correctly because of the bad tap.

I took it for a drive of the freeway.... went about 20 miles... I got home and had used all the water in my tank! Wow this sucks it up fast.... I'm going to have to mod up another tank that feeds my washer fluid tank soon! I can put the other tank on my wheel well on the passenger side in the engine compartment.... I got room there by a fuse box...

So I ran just water first... so going 70 MPH on the freeway, I typically boost about 6-8 PSI... with the water on I was doing 9 PSI on the dot.... there might have been some head wind sooo its hard to say... will the pre turbo nozzle cause hire boost then normal?

What I noticed is that when I would go into the higher RPM range the engine sounded much cleaner and I was able to go into higher RPM easier and sounded better...

When I cruise at 70 MPH on the freeway my exhaust temps are usually around 800 degrees... with the WI running it was staying about 100 degrees cooler (700) then normal.... very nice! My pyro sensor is pre turbo on the exhaust manifold...

I can't wait to fiddle with it some more... I'm going to try a 15% alcohol mix next....

Re: 1KZ-TE Setup

what setup do you using? i thought you where going to run WI after turbo.
what location is the nozzle and what size?

i'm fairly rusty with the 3 litre surfs (is yours a 130 or 185?) but theres probably a fair bit of room at the rear quarter panels.

i would have expected that at cruise (keeping feet still ) and you turn the WI on, you should get a slight acceleration. if injection is pre turbo you could well get extra boost. tho dvldoc will know for sure.

Re: 1KZ-TE Setup

Yes you will indeed get a bit more boost because the turbo becomes more efficient. But I would not go more than a 1gph nozzle on that vehicle due to the size of the turbo.

Re: 1KZ-TE Setup

I got the Diesel Universal Stage 2 Kit, which comes with 3 nozzles. I got a D01, D02, and D03. I ended up installing a D01 pre-turbo and a DO2 post-turbo.

I'm not liking where I have the post-turbo D02 nozzle.... it is installed on the rubber coupler and i think i need to move it away from the turbo.... I did a run with alcohol and water and the intake was cooler... but it was really cool right close to the turbo area, close to the nozzles.... but got hotter as it went over the engine... so I need to remount it further away somewhere in the middle there....

Here are some install pics...

Here is nozzle mounts.... right by the turbo..

Pump mount.... nice and close to the nozzles, turbo and reservoir..

Where I mounted the reservoir....

And where I mounted the controller...

I'll take pics of where I tap the aluminum intake piece when I do it....

Re: 1KZ-TE Setup

thank you for the pics and your efforts so far.

i don't think the temp of the crossover pipe is a big deal. i would rather have more throughly mixed air/water than a cool pipe. tho maybe put it after the bend so water doesn't land on the outside curve of the pipe.

the other thing i was looking at was to use a pressure switch and solenoid so the pre turbo nozzle didn't come on till near max boost . that way it didn't run while at cruise to save water usage (post turbo nozzle is still used). pre turbo is probably not all that important at low boost. that will vary depending on motor of course.
also it means pump pressure is up high for better water spray which will be better for the turbo impellers.

what will be interesting is how LITTLE water you can get away with useing to get an effect.

Actually we don't have any in stock but I can have some ordered. They would be M0.5 and M.75 nozzles so .5gph and .75gph@ 100psi. Thats as small as they come.

Re: 1KZ-TE Setup

Would the .5 gph be the outside or the inside mount nozzles?
