Diesels always run with the intake wide open. The A/F varies according to how much fuel is injected on each compression stroke. They always run on the lean side of stoich. When you approach stoich is when the egt gets too high and you melt pistons. Adding additional fuel through the intake can result in pre-ignition because it ignites too early in the compression stroke when there is not supposed to be any fuel present. David |
