Re: Dpf and wi

just put a 5mm dia hole in blank and did same journey no eml light so far.didnt want to go smaller than 5mm incase it blocks up with soot.i'll settle for the minimum amount of egr gases to eml happy.
also reset eml before hand fault code was p0401 egr gas flow insufficient.

Re: Dpf and wi

doesnt measure egr gas directly, it looks like the ecu knows how much the mass air flow(from maf sensor in inlet) reading should drop when the egr valve operates at its known % value and then calculate the egr value fron that and maybe other values?.started car this afternoon and eml light was on again so may need to increase hole size again but i will leave it at 5mm for now and see how i do on my commute to work and back.

Re: Dpf and wi

out of interest what size is the egr pipe?
does it have an egr cooler?
if it does have a cooler where did you place the plate?

EGr operates at part throttle only. Thats why you threw the code.

Re: Dpf and wi

blank(now restrictor)is placed just before valve body on the exhaust side of valve, yes there is a cooler further down the line and the valve bolts directly to the inlet manifold.
the original hole in gasket was approx 25mm-30mm i,ll measure later.
mpg has dropped a lot on trip computer but now looks more realistic with true mpg(too high due to tuning box 10mpg or so)
will have to wait and see what true mpg is for a full tank.
also the car seems to warm up faster than before if anything?supprising as my first trip is always down hill so not on boost.was expecting it to warm up slower.

Re: Dpf and wi

i would put the restrictor plate on the exhaust side of the EGR cooler as well.
partly to try and reduce the amount of heat the cooler has to deal with.
the other reason is that with smaller flow it will cool EGR better which makes it denser and you will get more EGR going into the motor.

shouldn't effect warm up much as typically EGR is off when motor is cold. however gauges may not read that low. cooled EGR systems can reduce motor temps simply because they reduce the burn without increasing inlet temps a lot.
usually a quicker warm up is better and its not related to maximum temps (ie blocking EGR will not overheat a motor).

incidentally some EGR systems these days can run even at full throttle, tho typical most don't.
