Ford Ranger 2.5TDCI

Hello,

This is my first time on here so be gentle ;)

I have a 2006 Ford Ranger 2.5 TDCI, which is basically a Mazda engine. There is no one locally (uk) that can remap the mazda ECUs, so all I can do is add a tuning box (more fuel) and up the boost. Will the water injection still make decent gains this way?

Re: Ford Ranger 2.5TDCI

It makes much better gains that way my friend.

Here's a example what happens. with just a older version of that mazda engine with just water injection.

Not bad for a 10 year old non common rail.

When you add extra fuel and boost and timing with the water injection on a turbo diesel the results are always the same you just get more power. 4cly turbo diesel will pick up more power per liter compared to any other engine period.

The mazda engine due to it's lack of a intercooler and natural inefficiency they gain a ridiculous amount of power.

Re: Ford Ranger 2.5TDCI

Well here is the thing with that, 90% of people will drive the vehicle harder due to the amount of extra power, On your D-4D it's fairly significant.

So if you drive it like you stole it, no you will not get better economy it will stay about the same.

Now if you drive like you did before then you will get better fuel economy. The only real way to get better fuel economy is to make more power at the same load without adding more fuel. The water/alcohol injection does that for you.

But I can guarantee you will drive it harder for the first few months.

Single D03 nozzle on the Ranger stage 1 kit, The Mazda MPV has a D01 and D03 Nozzle, that's why the huge jump in power right off the bat.

Speedlab is in the Philippines, I see you in South Africa. We have anouther dealer there.
