Nissan LD28 and water meth question

A couple of questions...

Should I consider water meth on this IDI Nissan LD28 diesel? Comp ratio is 22:1 and it will be turbocharged but staying below 15PSI. Thinking of retarding cam timing a couple of degrees to reduce the risk of pre-det and using a 50/50 mix pre-post turbo when 3psi or above. It being a 2.8L will the calculator work for this small of a motor? Bare with me as I'm new to diesels but not to forced induction... Thanks in advance. Frank

You'll probably want to go with more of a water mix, most likely 70/30 to start with. Since its not a turbo charged engine from the factory. You will want more cooling that fueling.

The nozzle size calculator is a bit off on 4cly and 6cly turbo diesels, For that engine. I would start out with a DO3 nozzle with the pump set to it's MAX 250PSI setting. Upping the boost anymore will require the DO4 nozzle.

Good luck on your project.

Ok, what about the cam timing? Leave it alone or retard a couple of degrees? Also, just one nozzle post turbo? Thanks Frank

You should not need to retard timing because the system will keep your pre-detonation under control. But to be on the safe side in case your system runs out of fluid under high load it will not hurt.

You can go with a Pre-turbo nozzle you will get better gains. A dual nozzle kit will be needed. You can request your nozzle sizes in the comments section of the order. You would need a D03 and D01. I would how ever get a D04 as well.

The D01 will go pre-turbo.

Ok, that sounds good. One more question, just noticed the MPI configuration... The LD28 has long intake runners and I think it would benefit with one of your MPI setups. Could I use a 1GPH nozzle per runner or would you recommend something else? That would be 7GPH with the pre-turbo nozzle. Would the one 250 PSI pump be OK to supply 7GPH?

Here is a picture of the LD28 and proposed nozzle location...

Re: Nissan LD28 and water meth question

Yes it has no problem doing that, it can supply a easy up to 60gph + if needed.

wouldn't 6 or 7gph be way to much for that motor ?
mayby use the 0.5 nozzles?

Tweak, I may agree with you, unless having that many nozzles does something to flow of the nozzles.

Re: Nissan LD28 and water meth question

No, its a turbo diesel, Even the 1.9TD motors run up to 4gph to 5gph nozzles.

There will be a pressure drop with using 6 nozzles, but 6 to 7gph on that engine will not be to much. Does he need that much probably not. One 5gph nozzle will do the trick.

What kind of pressure drop are we talking about?
