Default 1996 sc300 NA-T install pics. (& problems)

Mounting the pump and removing and cleaning the tank took alot longer than I thought. The old tank was really nasty inside.

I gotta say the slip tight hoses are awesome if they hold up... Makes routing the feed lines VERY easy.

The first pic is obviously taken under the car.... So your looking up.

Drilled upper IC pipe...

Tapped and threaded in nozzle.

I put the controller in the ash tray to keep the hidden effect. It lays nicely in there with the lid flipped open. But can also be hidden.

All closed up... no meth kits here!

Looking at the front of the car you can't see and hoses or lines. I like how the black hose meshes in with the engine wires and hoses. Also they supplied wire loom tubing. So all the wires are hidden too

I think it turned out well.

Finished

Issues

It leaks! how annoying....

I ran into this problem with my other alcohol kit that I put together myself. Leaks from the same spot up by the head of the pump. I had assumed that the pumps from Devils own would already have been sealed? No one else is having issues with this?

Anyway, here it is...

leaks

Heres the fix for it. At least it fixed my kit on the RX-7 for about a year now with no leaks.

Take the hat off.

Take the top pressure reg. section off. And slap some silicone under it and reinstall like so.

Then smear silicone on the hat and pump base. And slap them back together.

And let it dry 24 hours. What a PITA!

Never really heard of that issue, The pump could have had a manufacture defect in the housing, Or gotting a micro crack during shipping, We do warrenty those so if a issue arrises you can always send it back in for a no hassle replacement pump.

My last shurflo and several others that did the DIY kit on the turbobuicks forums had the same issues. They usually don't leak until about a year or so of use. (at lease in my case) Thats why most of the distributors of the alcohol injection pumps, for the buick community at least, seal the head of the pump as I did.

I thought it was odd that noone on this board has posted up about the shurflow pumps leaking? Might be because I'm running 99.9% race methanol. Or you could be right it may have a crack or other issue. I'll keep U all posted. I wanted to give the silicone extra time to cure before dumping meth back in my tank. I'll fill it up tonight.

Appreciate the kind customer service.

Thanks

I think you have not seen this on here because that probably the first time we have heard of it happening at least with our new pumps which we have been using these since last year.

Just remember anything built by people has a potiential to have a defect. I suspect a small hair line crack, Which we have had happen during shipping or somone got over aggressive on installing the fittings and cracked the housing.

Glad your back up and running.

Maybe I didn't tighten something?

Still, seems odd my last 2 pumps did the same thing. I'm not placing blame just sharing similar experiences with these pumps. Just FYI for all those that don't like doing things twice it may be a good ideal to seal them.

I would strongly recommend that people don't pull there pumps apart and try to re seal them. If its not broke don't fix it.

I have seen a leak under the pressure switch once before. Out of a few thousand pumps we sold so this is not something that happens often. I would assume its happen before and i was never alert to. If people with the problem see this let me know.

Someone is more likely to harm something taking there pump apart and "fixing it" than just leaving it alone. Getting silcone where it does not belong. Yes, some other company's do reseal the pumps because they buy pumps not intended for alcohol injection and swap out parts to make them compatible. While they are in there they take the time to reseal it. We sell the pumps as they are manufactured for us by shurflo. These pumps are pretty rock solid. I know shurflo sells over a million pumps each year so I would assume that if there was a problem with the design then it would be addressed.

Default More problems... pushlock fittings leaking.

I must be the most unlucky guy in the world!

So I decided to do a spark plug change on my car. Removed the charge piping etc.... Figured as long as I had the piping off I'd go ahead and check the nozzle spray pattern to make sure nothing is clogging the nozzles etc...

To my suprise when I used my mighty vac and applied pressure to my map sensor the pump came on and I was immediatly sprayed in the face with a healthy dose of methanol!

I've used push lock fittings before and I do think they are the greatest design in the world... when they work. This is the first incident I've seen where they leak.

The check valve that is attached to the spray nozzle on my kit is leaking right out of the push lock fitting. I tried removing the hose and replacing it. Nipping a small amount of the old hose off and reinstalling it again. The hose is very tight in the fitting and will not pull out. But once pressure is applied it sprays meth out the back of the pushlock fitting.

I'll be happy to supply video of this. And I'm sure the guys at devils own will stand by there product and send me a new check valve. I wanted to upgrade to a dual nozzle kit anyway.

So just a word to the wise. Check all your connections every few months. This could have resulted in engine damage and or a fire if I had not caught it.

You might have a piece of debri inside the check valve, You can open it up and clean off the ball and spring. If that does not do it PM rocket with your info so he can send you RMA paperwork in your email to return the check valve.
