Smile VAG 1.9PD install pics

Just managed to finish most of the install. All that's left is to prime the system and then connect the controller to the wiring run through to the glovebox.

Car is a Skoda Fabia vRS (similar to a Polo)

Pump mounted in front of right wheel arch where the side mounted intercooler used to be. Bracket made by welding a steel plate to the OEM SMIC mount.

Here bolted in place (you can see the MAP+ IAT sensor with the blue-colored bolt):

As I had the larger 5 litre washer tank already, I dremelled the pump lower part and epoxied it to the DO fitting. No need to drill the tank...

The upper boost pipe is a Stainless steel replacement, had it TIG welded and threaded. It's insulated and wrapped with aluminum tape.

EDIT - pump now primed and controller hooked up in the glovebox.......

Re: VAG 1.9PD install pics

The most important bit of info possible:

The VW MAP sensor is also the IAT (air temp) sensor. It has 4 wires. The one you want to tap into is [EDIT] green/dark purple - no 4- rightmost (marked on the connector). Got it wrong first time and had to jack up the car, remove the wheel and re-do. The supplied wire taps are amazing to use...

[EDIT] don't tap into the wire closer than an inch from the connector - I bust the wire and had to do some soldering/heat shrink tubing to repair.

Better to unclick the connector and bring it up into the engine bay and tap easily....

Hope to have some results soon...

Bas

sorry mate - would need some testing with a multimeter to be sure. But 5v and ground can be tested for with the connector unplugged, so that's pretty easy.

It's the variable v sensor from the MAP (not the variable v one from the IAT part of the same sensor) that's the important one, identified as above.

I think starting a thread with sensor wire ID's for different cars would be a great idea...

Re: VAG 1.9PD install pics

unplug the connector, use a multimeter set to measure DC volts. Turn on the ignition.
only one wire will show current - 5v id'ed.

Turn the meter to continuity testing - when you get a reading = ground

Now i understand. You measure the connector not the sensor.I have a sensor i wish to hook on the controller and try to figure what each pin on the sensor is.Thanks anyway.

Re: VAG 1.9PD install pics

I see. Well you could try the following:

4: MAP sensor
3: ground
2: AIT sensor
1: 5v

(3 wouldn't trigger the controller, 2 was 1.6v dropping with airflow, so 1 must be 5 v)

HTH

Re: VAG 1.9PD install pics

I suspect that the actual factory MAP may be a 2.5 BAR one. I notice that when I set the trigger point for 1.25 BAR, it comes on at an indicated 1 BAR.
No problem, just good to know.
