I'm currently building a 250 ci Ford 6, which should be somewhere in the 300hp range, give or take, since I don't know what sort of compression to run on it. If I get a Stage 2 kit and run it on straight water, what compression ratio's should I be looking at for an engine that can handle 10.2:1 on the Australian 98 octane pump gas? I plan on running an alcohol mix, but I'd like to build the engine so that it can run with straight water if I choose to. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Dan |

98 octane at the pump, we can only wish we had that in the states. Sounds like you need only water to keep your combustion temps down. But no car is the same and they all act different there is no black and white on tunning. But the kit would keep the engine from detonating. We have people running much higher compression than that on race motors running 92 pump gas with 50/50 methanol.

98 octane comes at a price, it works out to about $5.75 per US gallon and about $5.40 for our regular 91 octane. I'm currently running water injection on a stock 250 ci motor, its just an old vacuum feed system, but it got me an extra 15° igition timing and 30-35 mpg on the freeway. I'm thinking of trying something in the 11-12.5:1 range for static compression, as I will be running a fair bit of overlap on the cam too. Its not the end of the world if I put too much comp in it, if it takes me a full weekend to pull the head de-comp it and get it back on the road I'll be surprised. Does that sort of compression sound unreasonable or am I still on the safe side? I'd like to push the limits a little on the compression just to test the water (pardon the pun) before I build a V8 later this year. Thanks for your reply Dan |

If your engine cannot function without the water injection and the higher octane gas i would not go with the max compression ration but find something in between you can go with that if your system runs out of solution or you can't get good gas your not stuck with a detonation problem.

Hey 64Falcon If you are as you stated going to run a cam with alot of overlap then I might run up to11.5 to 1 even 12to1 with the 98 and even with the 93 and Devilsown system, you want all the compression you can get away with as this will make your engine more effciant in the combustion chamber. If i were since you in the land down under I would talk to Bruce Robertson, I hope I stated his last name corectly. Go to SmartCarby.com and e-mail him. He can put you in the right direction and you may wantr to look into his Carby. This is one very smart individual who has made his carby from scratch and it taken 8 or so years but he has out performed any carb on the market and all the problems that plaque carbs for performance and economy. His carby will out perform EFI when tunned corectly as he is getting total combustion and a flat fuel curve. He can help you with the compresion and cam choice and look into that carb of his. He has rasied C/R on a 2stroke engine to stop detination. Good Luck and Best Wishes Johnny Barb |

I've had a bit of a look into the smartcarby, a little out of my price range for my street car, but it certainly looks like something worth a try one day. Cam timing is finally picked, 246 / 255 @ 50 thou .530 valve lift and 110 lobe centre, I'll be running 11.5:1 static compression which should make a pretty good combination out of a 260ci Falcon 6. Anyway, I've got two kits on the way, so hopefully some figures for my hot engine, and a diesel I'm working on for a mate to get better mileage, 3.0L Turbo diesel Hilux, should be interesting to see what we can get out of that. Appreciate the replies anyway, thanks for the help guys. |

It will chrip the tires in 4 wheel drive and do one mean burnout. It's at the 200hp and 400lbs mark. It was featured in Topgear Philippines earlier this month. TopGear.com.ph - Feature - Gin is green | |
