I have a BMW with a 3.8L I6, Spins to 7500rpm, makes 400hp. I want to up the compression to 13:1. I have a stand alone engine management on it that will control extra injectors. I was wondering if could just use a standard fuel injector with a separate return style fuel system for the alcohol, regulated to 45psi. I can control this injector to pulse at any duty cylcle at any rpm above any throttle position, say 80%. I have several injectors I could use, 24lb/hr, 30lb/hr, 36lb/hr, 42lb/hr. Just wondering what you guys think of this. will this work? I would probably tap the injector into the inlet tube before the intake plenum. I could also use some sort of pressure sensor circuit to apply 12 volts to my stage rev limiter to shut the fuel and spark off if the alcohol pressure drops below a certain point. Can I run 13:1 with 93 injecting alcohol?

Your only big problem is that if the injector is not designed to handle methanol it will most likely fail in a very short period of time. And the injectors that are compatible have to be flushed after your done racing. So for street use I don't think you want to have to flush the injector everytime you park the car for the evening. The reason is that everything inside that is not stainless steel will corrode and the o rings will also have to be replaced regularly due to swelling. MSD Fuel Mangement Tech Info |
