olds 355 carburated what inj kit will work?

Hello everybody new member here.

I still have a slight rattle on cruise with slight acceleration on my olds 355 with 10 to 10-1/2 compression in a 1970 olds cutlass. I have bumped back the timing back a tad and it has helped but want to run a menthanol inj kit to help boost hp and octane. I currently run 94 sunoco with a lead additive. The timing now is set @ about 31* total @ 2500 rpm and i want to run about 36* total without worrying about detonation. My quench is set @ .038 which is ideal for the picky olds engine. I would need a kit that is vacuum operated that way when the engine needed it with part throttle and a drop in vacuum it would kick in.

What kit will work on this engine?. Thank you

One simple way would be to get the universal stage 2 kit, Pick up a surplus 1 bar map sensor from a auto salvage yard for 5 or 10 dollars. This way you have progressive control over how much you inject over your entire rpm band.

The controller has a 5v output wire that will power and read the sensor. All you need is to provide a vacuum line.

I would run a 5gph nozzle with this set up. even 30% alcohol will give you well over 100 octane in this situation.

will the progressive controler in the stage2 kit be compatable with the 1 bar map sensor or as i was reading in the forum under another topic you suggested the voltage phazed controler or are the basicly the same controler. If i understand it the 1 bar map sensor will turn on and off the inj pump depending on the vacuum demands of the engine and this will add the alcohol and water only when needed even at light cruise or full throttle is this correct?. Thank you for all your help

vacume is directly related to engine load. at light throttle you will have high vacume so you wont have any meth injected. at low vacume you have higher engine load and meth would be injected. you should never have a situation were you are at light throttle cruise and have low vacume.

but yes, the controller is the best way to do meth on an n/a motor.

Thanks sharkey- I just want to make sure the progressive controler with the stage 2 kit is the right one. With todays economy i dont want to but the kit and have to get another controler. Thank you again

I wonder if an RPM converter from innovate would give a 0-5v output for a Progressive Controller? Then it would be rpm based which I think would work better on NA setups...

i personally dont think going rpm based is a great idea, not for a street car would work that well. you would want it spraying at say, 3000rpm at full throttle, however under ligt to medium throttle you can still easily get over 3000rpm and it might start to flood the motor as its at a light load.

i personally think the best way to do meth on a naturaly aspirated motor is to use an efi fuel pump, regulator, injector and a simple computer like a megasquirt 1. you would be controlling the injector instead of the pump, and would be able to tune very precicly on an rpm vs map table. however this way isnt really cost effective, i can see it getting to $600+.

Well that depends on your current level, how much ignition timing your going to advance ect. It would be just like running on race gas all the way, there is no way to give blanket HP numbers, But every degree of timing is about 3 to 5 wheel hp. And if the engine is knocking now then it will get that timing back adding to the power.
