Pre-turbo sucess

Hi,

I'm running a 2JZ-GTE now

8000rpm
25psi boost
3ltr engine

I've got a ~M13, with a progressive and that's running well. But now I'm reading about this pre-turbo spraying.. and I'm keen..

Can I do that to mine without eating out the turbo blade?

Do I just add a M0.5 one foot from the inlet or right at the turbo inlet?

I'm always keen for more performance... your help would be great!

NB: Not sure if I have the 'new' or 'old' style pump. I bought my kit from you on 14-03-2008.

Re: Pre-turbo sucess

You have the 150psi pump, With a 1gph or less nozzle you do not have to worry about your turbo. Plus you'll pick up a little boost. I would go with a 1gph nozzle.

Re: Pre-turbo sucess

Thanks, that's great I will go with a 1gph nozzle. How far do I mount it from the turbo blade?

Re: Pre-turbo sucess

We have found it's does not make much difference, The thing you don't want to do is mount the nozzle before any sections in the hose that might be ribbed, those ribbed areas will hold water and it will role down in large drops. The closer to the turbo you can get it is fine because the whole point is to cool the turbo and not really the intake air. That is what the nozzle at the intake is doing.

Re: Pre-turbo sucess

Due to my turbo being in a pretty inaccessible place (bottom rear of the engine between block and firewall), the most convenient pre-turbo mounting I can make is appx two feet above the turbo, just prior to a 90 degree bend from horizontal to vertical (downwards). Just before the turbo, there is another 90 degree bend from the vertical back to horizontal and four inches off the turbo compressor. (Imagine a squared off "C" shape).

What, if any problems would/could occur with this setup?

Re: Pre-turbo sucess

There is more than enough airflow to move the mist to the turbo. Unless it's a ribbed hose you don't need to worry about it puddling or clinging to the walls of the tube. Now if it has ribbed joints prior to the turbo then don't use it because you'll have water collect in those ribs and it will run down in the turbo.

Re: Pre-turbo sucess

No ribbed hoses but there are two joints. The plastic inlet tube (that will hold the injector) eventually fits into a short (4inch) rubber hose after the final bend, and that short rubber hose then fits over the turbo compressor inlet so there are two "steps" at the turbo end. Thanks (and apologies to the OP for my hijacking).

Re: Pre-turbo sucess

Pics would help us show you a lot better the best location to place the nozzle.

Re: Pre-turbo sucess

The turbo area is so inaccessible, I cannot provide any worthwhile pics. The best I can do is show the engine bay.
Follow the intake from the airbox on the front right, it takes a 90 bend at the back of the bay, travels horizontally along the top rear of the engine and then disappears down the back to the turbo. It would be most convenient if I could mount the pre-turbo nozzle just before it disappears down the back (marked red). I've already mounted the post-IC nozzle just above the other red marker.

Re: Pre-turbo sucess

That location is fine as long as you don't have a bunch more of that ribbing.
