Re: Mini Cooper S

I have a progressive kit on the way and will be working out the install... only thing I'm not clear on is how the controller wires in to get boost... taps into the OEM map sensor or ??? If so, how does it calibrate?

Re: Mini Cooper S

OEM MAP sensor.

Map sensors just output voltage and the controller only reads voltage. I believe the mini cooper has a 3 bar sensor which should just match up with our controller as far as the numbers go.

Just use a voltmeter and determine which wire is the output wire. Then the green wire from the controller connects to that.

Re: Mini Cooper S

Cool - I'll make sure I start with the 3bar controller then. Thanks!

Keep the sand outta the places where there should be no sand, dvldoc. ;)

EDIT: Upon further research, I found a MINI technical manual that clearly specs the TMAP as 2.5bar. So I'm going to start with that...

Re: Mini Cooper S

Finished my install last night - I'll be doing a writeup soon. Here's my config:

* Using xenon headlight washer tank behind left front wheel well. Removed the pump and found that the self-sealing tank tap will snap right into the hole the pump comes out of and seals tightly. No tank mods necessary and fully reversible!
* Placed pump in right side cowl beside ABS/DSC unit. Cut and drilled a simple steel piece to mount to an existing stud in there - easy and clean, and fully reversible. Grounded to existing grounding stud nearby.
* Tapped the OEM TMAP sensor. It's the Yellow wire with purple stripe - the wire on the far right (US passenger) side. Used the red posi-lock connector. Worked the first time.
* Mounted my 2.5bar controller in my euro parcel shelf.
* Used an add-a-circuit to plug into a keyed circuit in the footwell fusebox. Easy to unplug for testing.
* Injecting using a #2 nozzle in the post-IC horn.

It's a wonderful thing to see your IAT's DROP when you stomp on it and hit max boost... way cool.

Only issue I'm having right now is that it appears the MINI TMAP voltage profile doesn't exactly match the programming of the 2.5bar controller, even though the MINI definitely has a 2.5bar TMAP. The controller thinks the boost is a few psi higher than it really is... so it comes on early and peaks early... have to set the knobs higher than what you really want, and experiment with the boost gauge (which is OBD-based - so it's accurately reading what the car is interpreting the TMAP to be saying).

I'm going to experiment more with it over the next week and see if I can get more precise regarding the variance between what the car thinks TMAP says vs. what the controller says... and see if either substituting a different MAP rated controller or changing the programming on the existing one will more closely match what the boost gauge says...

But, all in all, a pretty painless install (that will be even easier for the next guy who doesn't have to reinvent everything) that definitely impacts IATs under boost. More testing to come...

Re: Mini Cooper S

Hi,

I have an issue with the installation on my mini cooper s.

The pink wire to 12v ignition on,ok
The black wire to ground,ok
The blue wire to black pump,ok
The green wire to map, this i did it without checking,i read that at US mini is the yellow/purple wire and connect it,mine is EU mini and i don't know if there is a difference.I'll check it.
The red wire pump i connect it also to ignition on 12v and not to constant.
My problem is that it seems to spray even with a blip of the throttle, the cars bocks even at cruising.
The power light is on,The full orange light blinks very rapidly i think 3 times
The green light never comes on...
I also have a solenoid so there is no issue with stuck open checkvalve.

Do you think that is just a different wire of the map or there is something else wrong with my installation...
