Best source to tap from?

Hi there,

After much investigation. It seems the circuit tap route is the most popular. My problem is they don't sell circuit taps locally at all. I was thinking about using the blue POSI-LOCKS that came with my kit. My concern however is the narrowness of the lines that are under the dashboard in comparison with the lines leading out from the pump.

Would this be too much for the OEM lines to handle?

Here is a bad photo taken with my Blackberry. Thick red line is about 2/3 the size of the line I'm extending from the pump. So it gives you an idea how thin the OEM wires are.

I would avoid any wires that are less than a 20g wire. If your tap source is that thin you may have problems with the system. I would find a different source or use a relay.

Re: Best source to tap from?

Thanks doc! I found a source. It leads to the car's ignition. Just to clarify, I would need to put the fuse (as supplied) between my source and the pump/controller unit? Is that wire which the fuse is attached onto thick enough? It's thinner than the wires which lead to the pump.

Also would the Posi-lock work in this instance or is the contact point too small to supply the power? I could make the groove bigger with a file to use on these wires.

Yes you should use the fuse if you have a short in the system it will save you from needing to get a new controller. Just like a AMP or car stereo you would not install them without a fuse.

Thanks Doc! Would the posi-tap be sufficient to tap into the wire for power? Or is the contact surface area of the needle too small?
