I searched but didn't find exactly what I was looking for. I'm currently injecting the walmart super-tech -20 into my system. From what I've read on here it's about 40%meth and 60%water My supercharged cavalier is intercooled. The intercooler cores are located inside the intake manifold. I'm curious if I should be concerned about corrosion of these cores. I've read about many people using devils own or other setups on cobaltss.net, (same intercooler setup in the intake). However no one has really brought up this topic of the long term effects. Any input? Should I just use straight distilled water instead? I just don't want to cause damage to these as they are fairly pricey to replace if they become damaged... Thanks for any input! |

Methanol will only corrode aluminum if it is soak in it as in setting a piece of it in a bucket of methanol. The fine mist along with the massive flow of air pretty much takes care of anything in the system. Methanol boils at about 147 degrees which your internals will soon reach after a little heat soak of daily driving when the car is parked. We have never had a case of rust or corrosion in a IC. I have had the IC of my T-bird supercoupe in which I spray pre-blower and pre-IC with no signs of any change in the metal,

Thank you, I appreciate the reply. I just wanted to be safe as well as anyone else with the cobalt who just installed a kit. I suppose I just need to worry about my fuel injector at this point... I haven't found any specific to meth, they just say clean them after each use which obvioulsy won't work for this. |

Well actually I am, just not through my factory fuel injector(s). I have a sub-injector controlled by a greddy emanage and a shurflo pump that goes to my w/s washer reservoir. I'm using a factory stock 19lb per hr injector to add the w/s washer fluid. So that's why I was worried about the injector being damaged from internal corrosion. Based on what I've found I'm not seeing any injectors that are for meth though. I suppose I'll just try to clean it occasionally with mineral spirits and keep an eye on it. |

Oh I did not know you were using a stock injector. Most injectors will fail eventually because the small internal parts like seals and rings will fail due to the methanol making them swell and burst. Injectors are never recommended for alcohol injection. Just keep a eye on your system.
