Default Pump Problem

Customers car ... pump has stopped working so I remove the pump from the car and it looks like the pump has pushed water/meth into the windings of the pump. This has caused the pump to partially sieze and not work.

Any ideas on what caused this and how to fix ?

I will post some pix later as soon as my camera batteries charge .. lol

Here you can see the rust on the bolts that holt the back plate on the pump

Insides of the pump corroded

water and corrosion on the inside of the pump seal

brushes etc all corroded from water damage

How old is that pump? It looks like it had a seal fail and leaked methanol down into the pump. Methanol is very corrosive. How old is that pump?

That seal looks like the one only compatible with 50/50 methanol.

The attached pic is our custom pump with the 100% methanol seals which have been in use since Jan 07 /late 2006. The left is a standard shurflo pump the middle is our and the right is a compeditors. The seal on the left if Viton not rated for more than 50/50

If they were running more than 50/50 with that type of seal then most likely failed.

I don't think there is any saving that unit due to the corrosion.

There is a tech article we will be posting with the breakdown of all the pumps piece by piece to show you the differences. But that seal is the reason for the pump failure. We do carry the 100% methanol compatible seals on the site for people to change them out but it's to late for that one.

Not sure of the deatil of the pump but I bought it from you guys some time last year.

Which seal are you talking about ? the beige one or the black diaprahm ..by the way it way only every used with 50/50 watermeth. It is the one is the center anyways ( u say 100% meth ?)

I clean it out with some q20 and relubed - closed it up and the pump spins now...

Just need to order some of the seals from you and I will use it as demo pump in the shop .. have to give customer a new unit
