Stuck Relay. Near miss on hydro-locking.

Hi,
Had the kit on for about a month and have been wrapped with it. Just got it tuned for a new smaller pulley and the WI. Netted a new 40rwkw.

Had a little problem today though. I needed to top up the water/meth bottle so I stopped at the servo and filled up. Drove about 5km down the road, brought the ute on boost for a little bit and backed off.

Soon after this the ute began to bog down and felt like it was running on 6 cyls (its an 8). Also at this time the low level for the WI came on. Hmm strange coz I just put 2ltrs in.

Pulled over and kept the ute runnig while I had a little look. Everything seemed to be fine except it was still bogging/missing. I though for some strange reason it had injected too much and drove away gently hoping to dry it out. After awhile it came good and smooth again but I didnt bring it onto boost because I had no water/meth.

Got to work and turned it off and started working. About 2 hours later I had a break and decided to have a quick peek. I popped the bonnet and I could hear the WI pumnp running!!! EEEK *starts praying*

I quickly pulled the relay off and pulled the hose off the nozzle. I put the relay back on and it was silent. I knew the tank was empty and thanked god because it would have filled the motor nicely.

I turned it on and tested the hobbs/pressure switch manually (with just the hose and no nozzle) and I could hear the pump start up (turned it off straight away)

After work I refilled the bottle, reprimed the system and drove home and it was working perfectly.

How can the pump start with the ute off??? Its connected to the IGN for the relay coil AND it would have to trigger the pressure switch?. Sounds like a stuck relay. Do they get stuck often? Is it defective? Obvisously im worried because this could have been an extremely bad situation.

Any help would be appreciated.

(everything is wired correctly, double checked etc and has been working perfectly for a month and has just been well and truely tested on the dyno during tuning)

Jez

I am guessing that 1 a wire may be grounding out.

Relays either are broke or they work. I have not had anyt that some times work etc.

I would check the wires over realy well and look to see if something is loose. Maybe some pics of your wiring so i can look to see if its wired corectly.

YES! I searched everything again and it was the NC non-used 87a did not have any tape on it, foolish me. I have a few wires bunched up with a zip-tie. Obviously it touched the body and when I removed the relay and put it back on it was not touching anymore.

Atleast I can relax now knowing what the problem was.

Thank you so much,

Jez
