Type of alcohol to use?

Hello my Grandpa has a 1986 Buick Grand National (the 3.8L v6 turbo kind) he just installed alcohol injection and asked me to get him some of this to run in his car.

I work for a chemical company and we have a number of raw materials.

Ethyl Alcohol
methanol 99%
ethanol
Isopropyl alcohol 99.9 %

What should I be using?

Methanol (Methyl Alcohol).

I'd be curious to know how much you can get it for though your company. Typically it's about $5.00 per gallon from my local race shop.

Yeah My Grandpa only asked for denatured alcohol so that clears up what he is looking for.

We have 99.85% Methanol it is around $0.90 / Gallon.

$0.90 per gallon? And I thought I'd scored a good deal at the race shop. Heck, how much to ship to San Diego, CA?

Not much of a deal really. With HAZMAT shipping and almost 45 pounds thats going to be way over what you can get it for locally.

Yeah, I know. Unfortunately I couldn't find a smiley in the bar that indicated "I'm being ironic."

I already went though this exercise trying to order Methanol from McMaster-Carr. They've got it, but shipping was a bear. I think my $4.99 a gallon local supplier is probably gonna be it. Heck, it's still less than half what I was paying for "Heet", and slightly less than washer fluid on a cost-per-percent-methanol basis.

First of all Lucky you with direct source hook up on alcohol. GN run best on 100% methnol.
