As you have seen from previous threads, methanol isn't the easiest thing to come across where I am in Japan. While I have found supplies of 99.% methanol, they don't sell it in huge quantities. What I have seen available though is a 75% meth/25%ethanol mix. I was wondering what the equivalent in meth that would be and if I could use it in my setup. I am going for a 75% methanol/25% water mix in my current setup. Thanks for any views you can give on this. |

I know that most info I have seen puts them both close to each other. SOmething you may want to check if you want to get really technical is to see if the %ages are by weight or volume. I know WWF meth is shown here by weight.

I would have no idea where to start asking that in Japanese, and could just image the "What is that crazy foreigner asking us for" look as I ask the woman at the counter! If that's the case though, I might start using 99% meth when I can and 75/25 meth/eth mix at other times.

Do you happen to know what you have? If you have a pic I can try to figure it out for you. From this link You CAN be too Rich :: Application Notes The latent heat of methanol is 1109, and the latent heat of ethanol is 904. The latent heat is what it takes to change it from a liquid to a gas, what we want. So, for the sake of arguement, 1109 time 75 plus 25 times 904 divided by 100 equals 1057.75. This number is based on the measure by volume. I can't find the weight of methanol and ethanol, but it would simply require you do the same, using the weights of each to compare.

That's a complex article. So it's basically saying that a little water in your mix can actually help things over pure methanol? Don't have a photo of the meth/eth mix I was gonna buy, but I'll take on the next time I can |

Most meth I have seen has been mixed by weight. so you will need to find the weight of eth and meth, and then use the formula I posted. Then find what percentage more you need to run to get the same "power". The 75/25 you are talking about, does it come in a 500ml yellow bottle?

That makes it a bit clearer - thanks. Wonder how much my tune would vary if the latent heat values changed slightly between 1060-ish and 1105 at max. I doubt too much. And no, the bottle is frosted slightly with blue writing on saying something-or-other alcohol. Can't remember precisely. This page has some decent info about meth injection and mixtures: Tuning the LET And just for completion's sake, the latent heat of water is 2256. |

I think it would probably be safe to say that it's by weight, so find the wieght of each, and crunch some numbers. How much is it stuff you found, and how much is in a container?

99.6% meth is Y368 for 500ml and 75% meth/25% eth is Y300 for 500ml. I would happily pay for the 99.6% stuff but they only get it in every so often and when they do they only get 3 bottles in. Plus I'm buying for both me and one of my friends who is using meth too.
