I have been experments using METHYL HYDRATE as a fuel. It is ready available in hardware stores as a Painting supply. The engine that I am using runs fine when af is adjusted to it. I did a search on the internet, and they are said to be the same. Can someone verify this? |

Methyl Hydrate is just a anouther name for Methanol, I noticed they had this to when I went to HomeDepot for some Xylene. I believe it's only like $5.95 for the small can and less than 12 for a gallon still way more exspensive then a speed shop. Most sell it for $2.50 a gallon. Recochem Inc. - Products - FAQs Methyl Hydrate Is there a difference between Methyl Hydrate, Methanol, and Wood Alcohol? Answer: There is no difference between these products; it is just a different name for the same thing. Is there a difference between Denatured Alcohol and Methanol, or are they the same? Answer: They are not the same, but in most workshop applications either one can be used. Otherwise, Denatured Alcohol is an ethanol-based product and is considered less toxic than Methanol. Check to see if the manufacturer specifies one in particular and follow the recommendation. Where can I use Methyl Hydrate? Answer: Methyl Hydrate, also known as Methanol and Wood Alcohol, is used as a fondue fuel, shellac thinner, gas line antifreeze, and, when mixed with water, as a powerful window cleaner. |

Meth Hydrate can be mixed with fuel, for some reason normal fuel doesn't mix too well with plain meths. There is a very good article on the use of meth hydrate and the dangers on Hot Rods, Street Rods, Rat Rods, Classic Muscle Cars, Hot Rod Girl, Hot Rod Show - Hot Rod Magazine. I have tried to find the article but I cannot seem to find it now, but it is somewhere there.
