Using distilled water manditory?

I was reading up on the mixtures further and discovered that apparently you must only used distilled water if you plan to make your own mixture.

Is this true?

With the all nickel plated fitting that we use it is not necessarily however I do not use tap water. Regular filtered drinking water is just fine to use in the system. I have not used distilled in 4 years.

Hi dvldoc,

Great, I'm relieved to hear that. Methanol was hard enough to get a hold of, don't want to water to be another mission as well.

Thank you!

Will mineral water work as well? Any chance of clogging up the system using tap water?

Store bought filtered water works fine. Some location do have hard water so you will want to avoid that. If you have a problem with stains in your bathroom, toilets or clogged shower nozzles it's a good chance you have hard water and it should be avoided.

Red face Re: Using distilled water manditory?

I learned the hard way. After more than a year using regular tap water in the Philippines (Metro Manila) I noticed the past few weeks the mixture tank was hardly depleted. I opened up the nozzles and true enough it was clogged with hardened brown residue. A quick clean up and it's good to go once again. I did use a strainer for the tap when I mixed with methanol. But hey, maybe if I can afford to clean up the nozzles every 6 months it should not be a problem.

Had the same problem in Guam, with hard water. Filtered water is fine to use but not the tap. Distilled is the best but I have had no problems with bottled water to date.

I wanted to add a caveat. What you put in your engine will find it's way to your oil. Here is a link to a discussion about using non-distilled water, and it's effects on oil.
