I know that the recomended is the walmart -20C stuff. But at the moment our local walmarts only sell summer pink stuff and -40C green stuff. I see that there is some blue windshield washer fluid at gas stations rated at -35C and others. Just wondering if we could have a list of Brands and Temp ratings that people use. This type of thread would be very useful and it may even deserve a sticky. Paul

I may do that but I heard that Walmart Windshield washer fluid works well. I just picked up some Motomaster -40 windshield washer fluid (blue)... I can always use it for washig my windows but is this stuff good to use? Home depot has methanol? Where can I find it? Where can I find distilled water to mix with?

go to the paint section and pick up a can of Denatured Alcohol.. why are you mixing it with water?? you can make more HP running it staight.. I normally run straight methenol, but when im in a pinch i'll swing by Home Depot and pick up some denatured alcohol.. PS you can pick up 5 gallon containers of methenol for around 25-30 bucks from one of your local pertroluem compaines I still havent understood why people mix it with water |

Do not use green, yellow or orange washer fluid. It contains glycol, Depending on the consentration of it, can make a nice little smoke show like you blew a head gasket. It's found in fluids that say de-icer.

The stuff I bought is blue...but its -40C stuff... Motomaster... -40C stuff... from Canadian Tire... As to why I want to mix it with water? Hmm.. I'm new to alcohol injection, so I cant say for sure... but I understand water has cooling characteristics making the intercooling process more efficient. So I want to do both cooler charge and alcky... I still haven't tried anything (my kit was missing a couple of fittings) so I can't say what will work best on my car...

The anti detonant effect of a cooler combustion chamber that water may provide is offset by the greatly reduced energy water would provide compared to methanol. The expanding water molecules do provide energy as they go from liquid to gas. As it so happens methanol has a pretty good latent heat of evaporization and does so at a much lower temperature so it cools the intake charge while raising the octane of the fuel in the combustion chamber. It also produces more power than gasoline in direct contrast to the reduced power that water provides. So, in short, methanol is what you want to run unless you have an air cooled VW engine under boost or something where overheating can quickly become out of control. |

PS.. i found this on turbobuick.com Throw a lit match into a puddle of water. Then throw a lit match into a puddle of methanol. That's the conclusion of today's lesson. Water- in your radiator, your pool, or as a mixer in your Scotch. Not in the alcohol tank. |

| I'm not sure if internal combustion and knock controll is that simple. Throw a match in a puddle of air...it won't burn but you still need air for combustion... throwing a match in a bucket of gas will ignite it but pumping gas through your methanol injection kit insted of meth or water is not going to do squat for knock controll. Just because something burns doesn't necessarily mean that its better than something that doesn't. I'm not arguing with you that pure meth is better or more power producing than water/meth since I really have no experience in this stuff yet... but your "lesson" was a little too simplistic to be valid....in my eyes...
